Cost of moving house rises 69%
Figures released by Lloyds TSB have brought the astronomical cost of selling and buying a new property into light. The cost of moving (for current homeowners) has risen 69% in the last 10 years. The figures have regional breakdown as well as breaking down the costs. On average 38% of the spending goes on estate agency fees.
The greatest increase in the cost of moving house was in the South East, which rose 132% to £16,637 with Londoners paying on average £19,544. This is an increase of 127%.
The slowdown in the property market has not only effected homeowners, those trying to get on the ladder for the first time, but also people in estate agency jobs and property recruitment agents.
